NGM Major High School's Faculty and Administration continuously stress the importance of academic success to our students and in so doing, adhere closely to the Ministry of Education and Training's Curricula in the area where staffing is available for the school. During their first term, tenth graders make choice of subjects based on their intended careers for the commencement of their BGCSE studies. Students may be allowed to change options up to the end of September of that school year, with approval from the Principal's Office after consultation with the subject teachers concerned.
EXAMINATIONS, REPORTS AND GRADING SYSTEM
ExaminationsSchool Examination are held in December and June of each year at the end of the first and third terms respectively. Students who miss the exams due to illness are required to produce written evidence of their illness, before being allowed to take the exams missed. The student is responsible for contacting the teacher(s) regarding exams missed and to have them rescheduled.
ReportsA Report Card will be made available for parents/guardians on each child attending the school. Report Cards will show both examinations and term marks achieved by students during the term or half-year period. Final grades are determined from Term and exam grades (50% for the exam and 50% for the term). These final grades are also recorded in the students permanent file or Cumulative Record Card, kept at the school.
Grading System
PRINCIPAL'S LIST, HONOUR ROLL & ACADEMIC PINStudents who maintain a cumulative Grade average of 75% or above for the term are selected for the Honour Roll and those obtaining a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 and above for the year are placed on the Principal's List. The student earning the highest percentage during the School exams of December and June is permitted to wear an Academic Pin for the entire succeeding term. The student scoring highest after totaling both December and June grades receives the "Student of the Year" trophy. At the end of each year, graduating students are recognized in the following ways:
ASSEMBLIES AND DAILY SCHEDULE
AssembliesThere are two general assemblies for the whole student body per week. They are held on Monday and Thursday of each week. Individual class assemblies and devotions are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Attendance at assemblies is compulsory.
